Our seniors took to the Greaves Reserve led out by Jacob Merhtens in the absence of the injured Brendan Shannon and had a scratchy start, with Dandenong scoring two quick goals and getting the jump on us. To our boys credit, they didn’t panic and steadied to kick the next three goals to edge back in front. A couple of goals late in the quarter saw us holding a 13 point lead at the first break. Our Development squad led by Sam Messinis took the field in our first game under the FDFNC banner on Saturday at Greaves Reserve against Dandenong Redlegs and took a while to settle and work together as a team, which resulted in a tight contest in the first quarter and saw us hold a lead of 14 points. From there on, our boys clicked and implemented what they have been training over the preseason with an impressive display, particularly in the third term where we piled on 9 unanswered goals, running out comfortable winners by 133 points. Frankston Dolphins 22 – 18 – 150 to Dandenong 2-5-17. A fantastic whole team effort with special mentions to Ryan Griffiths and Cameron Russell with 8 goals.
