Be an 'ALLIN' Dolphin in 2021

The saying “a week is a long time in football” refers to being able to bounce back from a loss the previous week …throw in Covid-19 and that makes a season is a very long time in footy or netball.

Having put in a great deal of work to ready ourselves for a big 2020, we can now only look ahead to 2021. We’re sure that everyone has missed participating in football and netball this year and hopefully you are as excited about the prospect of returning to sport in 2021 as we are.

The break from competition, although disappointing, has provided us with the opportunity to undertake a review of where we are at as a club and set a course that will ensure we continue to grow and succeed into the future. How successful we are as a club, team, or at an individual level is up to each of us, so we are asking that everyone from the committee, our players, volunteers, supporters through to our sponsors, commit to being ‘ALL IN’ for season 2021.

Our call to be ‘ALL IN’ means buying in, giving it your absolute best effort, committing to your teammates and knowing that those beside you make the same commitment, committing to the club to ensure we are successful on the field as well as off and importantly, coming together as one club to celebrate our successes and taking our club to the next level.

As a club, ‘ALL IN’ means ensuring we are connected to supporting our players, members, sponsors and community.

To our players, we encourage you to stay connected to each other over the coming months, continue to stay active and prepare to return to football or netball in the best shape possible with a genuine hunger for success in 2021. We would also like to see every player secure a sponsor for next year. With a range of options from $100 upward, this should not be difficult and ultimately goes towards keeping your fees as low as possible.

To our supporters, there are there are three ‘call to action’ points that we ask you to consider in the lead up to 2021 that will assist in positioning our club for success. Would you please consider:

  1. Becoming a member for 2021 (or even a sponsor) and look to bring one person each with you

  2. Join a Coterie Group (Dolphin Pod, CLUB 50 or Ladies Coterie)

  3. Volunteer for a match day role and become an integral part of our team in what is sure to be an exciting 2021 season.

Season 2019 showed that we are on the right track with two new netball teams that were very competitive in their respective grades with both just missing finals in their first year; our senior footballers winning their first final and pushing the eventual premiers to 18 points in the preliminary final; and our Reserves going through the season undefeated and bringing home our club’s first premiership.

This year we saw women’s football re-established at the club, a pod of juniors come through to form what would have been our first Under 19 team, growth in netball numbers resulting in extra teams ready to represent the Dolphins, and some fantastic recruits within senior football across both players and coaching staff, which showed some very positive signs during pre-season practice matches.

As we look forward to 2021, there are plenty of positives ahead - our new club rooms are absolutely fantastic and see us with one of the best facilities in the league, providing us with the ability to not only host home game functions, but importantly social functions where we can welcome all of our players and members in a comfortable environment.

In addition to this, the committee continues to work closely with Frankston City Council on the delivery of the Overport Park Master Plan, including continued lobbying for the provision of netball courts within the club precinct, which will result in an incredible sporting facility for us all to enjoy.

There is no doubt about it, the club is hungry for success and what motivates and drives many of us is ultimate success and premierships. But in striving for that, we need to ensure that we do this sensibly and sustainably whilst staying true to our purpose – to provide a seamless pathway to senior football and netball. In this regard, our strategic plan drives us forward and clearly speaks to what we want to do, what we want to stand for and how we are going to do it.

It’s so much more enjoyable running a club with great people and we are blessed to have a small dedicated band of volunteers that support us in achieving our club vision, but we need more people to get involved if we are to continue to grow and prosper.

Please reach out to one of the committee and have a chat if you would like to know how you can contribute.

We would love to have you ALL-IN for season 2021.
